What do Glaziers and Joiners do?

Glaziers are specialists whose skill and knowledge is required to install glass and glass products in buildings and related structures

“One of the major trends of contemporary architecture is to link interior space to the exterior with minimum compromise. Thanks to the important technical advances of recent years, glass has come to be regarded as the ideal medium for this concept. Glass is the material which balances light, transparency and appearance with the practical functions of thermal insulation, solar control, safety and security, acoustic insulation, fire protection and so on.”

Selecting Suitable Gateway Students for the Joinery or Glass Industry

What type of student is suitable for the glass industry?

One who pays attention to detail. These students may be creative and do well at technology and design. Their nature will be indicated by an intolerance of “second best will do”. When it comes to practical activities they may be described as “picky” by others and enjoy being outside. Those with a head for heights may enjoy commercial glazing. Work in this field involves communicating with clients.
Our apprentices say they enjoy the variety of work, working in different places each day and working with their hands.
