The assessment of most unit standards is completed during the apprentice's off-job training at The Glass and Glazing Institute
of NZ. The unit standards will appear on the Student Report and also on the apprentice's NZQA Record of Learning, building up
the units required for the National Certificate.
Some skills however, require more practical experience than can be gained during the short time at The Glass and Glazing
Institute of NZ. To ensure that each apprentice can complete the required tasks to industry standard and time, employer
verification of competence is required.
Once the employer/trainer is satisfied that the apprentice is competent in the skills required for each unit standard,
he is asked to sign off that unit. Once all the required unit standards appear on the apprentice's Record of Learning the
National Certificate of Joinery will be awarded.
The following unit standards require employer verification of competence:
- 13036 ~ Carry out safe working practices on construction sites (level 4, 5 credits)
- 13064 ~ Use adhesives on site (level 4, 3 credits)
- 13067 ~ Prepare order lists for a residential or light commercial building on site (level 4, 3 credits)
